Ballinakill

Ballinakill (Baile na Coille in Irish, meaning "the town of the woods") is a small town in County Laois, Ireland. It was originally a typical market town, with a planned street layout being implemented in the 18th century. A castle, Ballinakill Castle, now in Masie and Billy Delaney's backyard is situated just off the R432 road near Abbeyleix. The population is according to the 2002 census 682 (347 males and 335 females).
Ballinakill has a very good community school that was previously the Salesian College. The Salesian College was built on the grounds of the Heywood Estate. Lutyens designed the cheerful Heywood House garden, the Salesian Fathers' Community School at Ballinakill which is open to visitors under government ownership but managed by the OPW.
