A banshee, in Irish mythology, is a "fairy woman" whose mournful wails herald an imminent death.
The name is also used for super-natural undead monsters in many role-playing games, particularly Dungeons & Dragons and Fighting Fantasy, whose scream serves as a deadly weapon.
