Barnard Castle School

Barnard Castle School, founded in 1883, is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Barnard Castle, County Durham, England. The School motto, "Parvis imbutus tentabis grandia tutus", means "when you are steeped in little things, you shall safely attempt great things".
Houses are a huge part of school life there are eight houses in total each with its own colour and shield. Two boys boarding houses North(blue),York(orange). Three day boys houses Durham(gold) ,Dale(marroon), Tees(dark green).one girls boarding house longfield(pink) and two girls day houses Bowes(light green) and Marrwood(purple).
Notable Old Barnardians include Prof Edward Mellanby, his nephew Professor Kenneth Mellanby, the actor Kevin Whately, the actor and producer Glenn Hugill (who is reputedly The Banker (Deal or No Deal UK) ), the fashion designer Giles Deacon
Barnard Castle are also well known for their rugby they have produced international players like Rob Andrew, brothers [[Rory Underwood] and Tony Underwood, and Mathew Tait. His younger brother Alex also plays for england under 19. Barnard Castle regularly supplies the Newcastle Falcons with players recently Tim Visser, Lee Dickson and Ross Batty. They also often have many international schoolboys at under 16 and under 18 level in 2007 they had Callum Clarke and Rory Clegg in the England under 18 squad, Tom Catterick and Alex Grey in the England under 16 squad, Sean Dougell in Irelands under 18's and Adam Mcenzie in scotlands under 18 sqaud.
The school's rugby tradition was further enhanced in 2003 ,2004 and 2007 when the school's 1st XV rugby squad reached the final of the National School's Cup. They were defeated all three times.
