Barnet parks and open spaces
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The London Borough of Barnet, located on the northern periphery of London and having much of the area within its boundaries in the Green Belt, has a large number of parks and open spaces. The Borough also has controls five Local Nature Reserves (LNR), and is jointly responsible with the London Borough of Brent for the Welsh Harp reservoir. In addition there are large areas taken over by cemeteries and golf courses; part of Hampstead Heath; as well as smaller recreation grounds.
The main greenspaces are listed below; many merge with one another, so the locality is shown first; in this connection the Borough uses ‘Green Chain’ to mean linear parks, described as strips of open land through developed areas:
- Arkley open spaces, including Rowley Green Common LNR and Barnet Gate Wood
- Brent Park, beside Dollis Brook, including The Decoy lake
- Edgewarebury Park, Edgware
- Golders Hill Park, near Golders Green tube station
- Hampstead open spaces: including Big Wood and Little Wood, in addition to the Heath
- Mill Hill area, including Arrendene Open Space and Mill Hill Park
- Moat Mount Open Space LNR: with Scratchwood LNR form the largest area of woodland in the Borough
- Oak Hill Woods and Meadow LNR, East Barnet
- Sunny Hill Park
- Totteridge Fields LNR
- Woodridge LNR, near Woodside Park tube station
- Coppetts Wood and Glebelands, Friern Barnet
