Barony of Caer Galen

The Barony of Caer Galen is a chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism for Boulder and Broomfield Counties in Colorado. It was established in mid-1979 in the Kingdom of Atenveldt, and became an official shire in January 1980. It recently became the sixth barony of the Kingdom of the Outlands, with the first Baron and Baroness being Massimiliano Pontieri dal Sasso and Yazida bint Zarif. Caer Galen is known for its service and has supplied many of the kingdom officers throughout its history. It is known for its fine arts, and has many recognized artisans. It is also is known for its good humor and friendly people. It hosts The Caer Galen Instant Theatre guild and Black Dragon Society, the finest Commedia dell'Arte troupe in the immediate vicinity. And, it was the first home of the world-renowned Sporadic Verses - a mild tweak at the nose of the SCA establishment.

The shire was founded in September 1979 by a group of high school students at Fairview High School in Boulder, CO. It has grown and thrived through 2 kingdoms to be one of the jewels of the Outlands.

- Caer Galen Defender - in alternating years, has been earned by either the fencing champion or the armored champion. It also has featured equestrian competition.
- Caer Galen Midwinter - famous for its Caer Galen Musical Chairs. Don't forget to sign your waiver!

- The Harp of Caer Galen - given yearly at Caer Galen Midwinter since 1985, this is a vote (yes, vote) by the populace for the 'most valuable player' of the past year. It is the Barony's most coveted award.
- Order of the Arch of Caer Galen - Service to the Barony
- Order of the Nightingale's Song of Caer Galen - Arts in the Barony
- Order of the Bards Militant of Caer Galen - Outstanding contribution to the Barony in any of the martial pursuits (rapier combat, archery, armored combat, or equestrian skills).
- Ancient and Honorable Order of the Right Crusty Curmudgeons of Caer Galen - 15+ years of backbreaking service and dedication to the Barony.
- Order of the Cochon Volant of Caer Galen - doing the impossible with the inadequate for the unworthy.
- Order of the Dancing Monkey of Caer Galen - Bringing fun to Caer Galen.
- Order of the Storytellers of Caer Galen - Bringing magic to the game through persona, charm, grace, and that elusive je ne sais quoi.
- Order of the Poignard Noir - Behind-the-scenes personal service to the coronet.
- Order of Saint William the Cooper - special recognition by the coronet.
