Barossa Light & Gawler Football Association

The Barossa Light & Gawler Football League (BLGFL) is an Australian rules football competition based chiefly in the Barossa Valley region of South Australia, Australia. It is a affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League. In 2006 Barossa Districts Football Club were premiers, defeating Freeling Football Club.[1]

[edit] Brief History
The Gawler football Club was an early participant in the South Australian Football Association having formed as a club in 1868.[4] and joing the SAFA in 1887. In 1899 Gawler left the SAFA following the commencement of the Gawler Football Association.
The Gawler Junior Football Association was formed in 1889 with founding clubs of Gawler Central, Gawler South and Willaston. In 1890 the Gawler Junior Football Association changed its name to Gawler Football Association. By 1952 it had renamed itself to Gawler & Districts Football League and the teams competing were Gawler Central, Gawler South, Lyndoch, Roseworthy, Roseworthy College, Salisbury, Two Wells, Virginia and Willaston.
The Barossa & Light Football Association was formed in 1908 with founding clubs comprising Angaston, Freeling, Kapunda, Nuriootpa and Tanunda.
In 1987 the Barossa And Light Football Association merged with the Gawler Football Association , to form the Barossa Light And Gawler Football Association, the formation clubs being Angaston, Eudunda, Freeling, Gawler Central, Kapunda, Nuriootpa, Riverton-Saddleworth-Marrabel United, South Gawler, Tanunda and Willaston.
