Bartholomew Boriello

Bartholomew "Bobby" Boriello (March 31, 1929 - April 13, 1991) was a Gambino crime family soldier, who also served as John Gotti's favorite bodyguard and chauffeur. A prominent hitman during the 1980s, he is most known for his involvement in the gangland slaying of Gambino associate Louis DiBono in 1990.
Boriello grew up in South Brooklyn, in an area surrounded by Gambino, Genovese, and Colombo wiseguys. Boriello became a made man in the Gambinos somtimes in the 1980s, and quickly developed close relationships with the most powerful Gambino wiseguys, including Gotti, his brothers, and Salvatore Gravano. Boriello and John Gotti would often spend weekends together partying and gambling at Jay Black concerts on Long Island (Black had been a childhood friend of Gotti's). Boriello had his own social club on Court Street in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn.
In 1990, on the orders of John Gotti, Boriello murdered Gambino solider Louis DiBono. DiBono had secured, most likely through bribery, the lucrative contract to install fireproofing foam on the infrastructure of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, while they were being built and afterwards as routine maintenance. DiBono's business was soon after taken over by Sammy Gravano. Sometime before he was killed, Boriello had tried killing Gambino crime family associate Preston Geritano. Boriello fired several shots at him on a Brooklyn street. Because Geritano had relatives in Genovese crime family, several sitdowns were set up where eventually the Gambinos released Geritano to the West Side, and a deal was struck that if Geritano ever tried getting back at Boriello he'd be killed on orders from the West Side.
On April 13, 1991, Bobby Boriello was shot to death outside his Bensonhurst, Brooklyn home, on orders from Lucchese family underboss Anthony Casso. The hit was carried out by Lucchese captain Frank Lastorino. John Gotti, who was sitting in a federal lockup, was infuriated to hear Boriello had been killed and immediately dispatched men to meet with the leaders of the Genovese family, who promised that they'd kill Preston Geritano. Geritano would not be killed soon though (he would be stabbed to death outside a Bay Ridge, Brooklyn restaurant in 2004). Casso received information to perform the Boriello murder from so-called Mob Cops Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa.
