[edit] History
Much of the land for the park was donated to the state by the city of Bastrop in 1938 and the state purchased an additional 1,450 acres in 1979. The Civilian Conservation Corps built many of the park facilities using native stone.
[edit] Features
The park features many trails, including an 8.5-mile loop through the park's undeveloped area. There is also an 18-hole golf course that winds through the forest that is open year round. There is a large swimming pool open during the summer months.
[edit] Fauna
Bastrop State Park is home to the largest mating group of the endangered Houston toad on public land. Areas of the park are closed to the public during the toad's mating season in February, March and April.
