The Battle of Rehe (sometimes translated to Battle of Jehol) was fought from February 21 to March 1 of 1933 between China and Japan. The Japanese attacked and successfully captured part of the province. This was the first part of Operation Nekka, followed by the attack on the passes in the Great Wall.
On February 23rd, Japan launched the offensive against Rehe/Jehol. On February 25th, Chaoyang and Kailu were taken. On March 2nd, the Japanese 4th Cavalry Brigade encountered resistance from the forces of Sun Dianying, and after days of fighting, took over Chifeng. Sun Dianying mounted a counterattack against the Japanese 6th Division on the same day, and at one time penetrated to near the Japanese headquarters. On March 4th, Japanese cavalry and the 1st Special Tank Company took Chengde the capital of Rehe/Jehol. After intense fighting, the Chinese retreated on March 1.[1]
Notes
- Prior to Operation Nekka the Renault tanks of the 1st Special Tank Company were replaced with Type 89 Tanks. During the Rehe operations, 1st Tank Company launched an attack from Chaoyang on March 1, and reached Chengde on March 4.
