Ben Lerner

Ben Lerner (born February 4, 1979) is an American poet.

Born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, Lerner is a 1997 graduate of Topeka High School.[1] From 1997-2001 he attended Brown University, where he earned a B.A. in Political Theory. From 2001-2003 he completed that university's MFA program, where he wrote the thesis that would become his first book, The Lichtenberg Figures. In 2003 he traveled on a Fulbright Scholarship to Madrid, Spain. Lerner currently lives in Berkeley, California.

In 2003 Copper Canyon Press awarded its Hayden Carruth prize to Lerner's cycle of 52 loose "sonnets," The Lichtenberg Figures. In 2004 Library Journal named The Lichtenberg Figures one of the year's 12 best books of poetry.
While living in Madrid, Lerner wrote a second book containing a long sequence of prose poems as well as the poems "Begetting Stadia", "The Didactic Elegy", and "21 Gun Salute for Ronald Reagan". This book, Angle of Yaw, was published by Copper Canyon Press on October 1st, 2006.
Together with Deb Klowden, Lerner edits No: a Journal of the Arts, a magazine of poetry, art, and criticism.
His poetry also can be found in publications such as Denver Quarterly, Fence, Paris Review, Ploughshares, Threepenny Review, Slate and Verse.[1]

Lerner has recently been named a finalist for the 2006 National Book Award.[2]
