Bern Nadette Stanis (born December 22, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American actress best known for her role as the strong-willed Thelma Evans on the CBS sitcom, Good Times.
Stanis has two daughters, Dior Ravel and Brittany Rose.
Her eldest daughter, Dior Ravel, is now 24 yrs old. Her father is Terrence Redd, who is currently married to Kathleen Bradley, a well-known longtime model (as well as the first African American model) of TV's The Price is Right game show.
Bern Nadette graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in 1972.
One of Stanis' most recent television appearances was on the hit UPN sitcom, Girlfriends. There she appeared as the cousin of quick witted Mya Wilkes played by Golden Brooks. In the episode, William Dent (Reggie Hayes) expressed a strong desire to meet Thelma from Good Times. Mya revealed that Stanis was indeed her cousin and that she would arrange a date with the two (in real life, Stanis is married). The date was held in the popular hangout Skia.
Will repeatedly referred to Bern Nadette Stanis as Thelma and talked about her Good Times family as if it were real. It initially upset her and after she "set Will straight," they decided to go on with a normal date. After a moment of silence, both Hayes and Stanis realized that there was not much to talk about, so she eventually started a new conversation as Thelma.
