Bernie Smilovitz is a sportscaster for WDIV in Detroit, Michigan. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Washington, D.C.
He joined WDIV in 1986, coming from D.C.'s WTTG, then an independent station. He left WDIV in the mid-1990s to join WCBS-TV in New York City, only to return two years later after being fired from WCBS-TV along with several other anchors and reporters. At WCBS, one of his more popular features was Monday night's "Weekend at Bernie's", a recap of the past weekend's more interesting or odd sports highlights. Infamous for "Bernie's Video Arcade", in which humorous clips are played on the sports cast. Both "Weekend at Bernie's" and "Bernie's Video Arcade" now appear on WDIV.
