Bhodpa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term bhodpa refers to a Tibetan person.
Commonly used within Tibetan speaking society, bhodpa roughly translates to Tibetan. It is not a derogatory term nor does it reflect upon any other traits of a person. Intrinsically, Bhod means Tibet and pa could mean from. The term Bhodpa may have also derived from the Bhonpo religion that was practiced in Tibet before Buddhism spread during King Songtsen Gampo's rule. Bön, or Bhonpo as it is known among Tibetans, is a religion that is still practiced in some parts of Tibet and has become a very intrinsic part of the Tibetan culture as evidenced by the influences of it on the Tibetan Buddhist practices.
