"Big Cheese" is a song by the grunge band, Nirvana. "Big Cheese" first appeared as a b-side on the band's first single "Love Buzz, released in 1988. Later it appeard on their 1989 debut album Bleach.
The lyrics on "Big Cheese" describe one of Nirvana's former producers, and the relationship between Kurt Cobain and his girlfriend at the time. His girlfriend told him to get a job ("Mine says/Go to the office") and it is about taking out authorities ("Big Cheese/ Make me.") which most songs on Bleach are about.
Chuck Crisafulli, in his book Teen Spirit, suggests this song is about Sub Pop boss Jonathan Poneman.
A live version of "Big Cheese" recorded on 23rd June 1989 at Rhino Records, Los Angeles, California was released on the DVD with the Nirvana rareties box set With the Lights Out, released in 2004.
