Bill Mescher
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
William C. "Bill" Mescher (September 5, 1927- ) is a Republican politician from South Carolina. He was born in Belknap, Illinois. Mescher has served in South Carolina State Senate since 1993, representing Berkeley County, SC.
In 2005, Mescher criticized Governor Mark Sanford for his involvement in Santee Cooper affairs. Sanford responsed by pointing out a conflict of interest, that Mescher himself once served as CEO of Santee Cooper [1].
In 2007, Mescher gained media attention when he proposed a bill to legalize medical marijuana in South Carolina [2] [3]. However, this bill is likely to be unsuccessful, as South Carolina is one of the conservative states in Deep South. He has also previously fought for the legalization of ferret as pet and tattooing in the state [4][5].
