According to Billboard Magazine, only four albums reached Number One on the Billboard 200 chart during 1984. Lionel Richie's Can't Slow Down reached Number One on December 3, 1983 where it maintained this position until April 21, 1984. The Number One albums for 1984 in the U.S. is as follows:
1. Footloose (Soundtrack) - Various Artists. Reached Number One on April 21, 1984.
2. Sports - Huey Lewis & the News. Reached Number One on June 3, 1984.
3. Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen. Reached Number One on July 7, 1984.
4. Purple Rain (Soundtrack) - Prince & the Revolution. Reached Number One on August 4, 1984.
Purple Rain was finally knocked off the top of the Album Charts when Madonna's Like A Virgin reached Number One on February 9, 1985.
