Billy Abercrombie came through the youth ranks at St. Mirren and signed in full forms in 1975. When Billy was 17 Sir Alex Ferguson called him into the St. Mirren first team to tour the West Indies.
On the 29th of October 1986 against Motherwell at Love Street he was sent off for three red card offences. Foul play and two counts of dissent. He was banned for twelve matches transfer listed by Alex Miller He transferred to Partick Thistle in 1988.
