William Brester 'Billy' Van Arsdale III (1935-1962) is the husband of Francesca Corleone in the novel, The Godfather Returns.
Billy Van Arsdale was born to unnamed parents in New York in 1935. His family made fortunes selling citrus juice for many businessmen, including Vito Corleone. He was a troublesome child and often had parties when he was a teenager. In college, he met sweetheart Francesca Corleone in 1955.
Bill and Francesca got married in January 1956 and had two children, Frank and Bill Jr. Around this time he became a spy for the Sheas. He also started campaign work for the President elect, James Shea. He also did not personally like Michael Corleone because he would not let him in on any secrets.
By 1961, he started to have an affair with one of Danny Shea's secretaries. Francesca never knew about this and thought he would not have intercourse with her because he knew she was pregnant. By early 1962, Francesca had learned that Billy was a spy for the Sheas and he was having an affair.
He was staying at a hotel the night of his murder. Francesca drove a car, crying, and saw him leaving. She saw him and started peddling faster until she hit him. The force of the hit broke his body into two-halves. To this day, his murder was never solved.
