[edit] Summary
Bishop McCort High School is located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in Cambria County.
[edit] Early History
Johnstown Central Catholic High School opened its doors on September 8,1922, with an enrollment of 128 freshmen. The original building, which is still in use today, held classrooms for freshmen, sophomores, and an economics room. The original auditorium/gymnasium was added to the school in 1929.
From 1947 to 1962 freshmen students were forced to study elsewhere because the original building was not sufficient enough to hold the growing enrollment. The parish grade school buildings of St. John Gualbert in the downtown; St. Casimir, Cambria City; St. Anthony in Woodvale were used. Two daily sessions for freshmen were needed in the year before the opening of the remodeled and expanded Catholic High school.
In 1961 the original building had three structures added to it. One wing, which parallels Irene Street, contained science and computer labs, art and business classrooms, health, guidance, and administrative offices.
A second wing provided athletic, choral, and orchestral facilities. The school chapel severs as a connector to and unifier of the McCort School complex.
Johnstown Catholic, expanded and renewed, became Bishop McCort High School. Honored by the name change is the Bishop John J. McCort who started the Diocesan Catholic High School.

[edit] Current Day
The current campus has seen many changes over the past five years. New additions were recently added to the guzzitorium with over $100,000 coming from the Guzzy family of Johnstown, PA. Among the additions were new lighting and sound systems.
It is rumored that the school is in the final stages of planning for a million dollar indoor fieldhouse which will be used by all athletic teams. It will be comprised of a synthetic playing field for use by the football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, track and field and cheerleading teams. Also a new weight room will be added as well as locker rooms and coaching offices.
The weight room expanded from a modest one room facility to a spacious two room workout center complete with treadmills, free weights, and Hammer strength equipment.
Currently, in the 2006-2007 school year there are 497 students enrolled.
