Blönduós
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Blönduós is a small settlement in northwestern Iceland, 245 km from Reykjavík. The town has a population of around 1000, a small 9-hole golf course and is a good base for touring the around Húnaflói area.
Blönduós is a busy town situated at the junction of Route 1 and the glacial river Blanda, whose estuary runs through the town. On a hill above the town is a church with striking architecture that is intended to resemble a volcanic crater.
Because Blönduós does not have a good harbor, the town's major function is to act as a dairy service center for the surrounding farm areas. Fishing and forestry research also play roles in the economy, as does tourism.
