Blodeuedd
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Welsh mythology Blodeuedd, meaning "flower face" or blossoms, was created by Math and Gwydion (from flowers) as a wife for Lleu Llaw Gyffes, but also took Gronw Pebyr as a lover. Out of love for her, Gronw attempted to kill her husband, but instead died by the hand of Lleu. Lleu was blessed and, therefore, very difficult to kill. He could not be harmed unless he stood with one foot in a cauldren filled with water, near a river, and the other foot on the back of a goat. Finally, Blodeuedd tricked Lleu into fufilling these conditions at which time Gronw hurled a spear at him. Even so, Lleu was not killed, but rather was transformed into an eagle, by which means he escaped. He was later found and returned to him former self by magic. Blodeuedd was transformed into an owl for her treachery, a bird of the night, scorned by the creatures of the day.
It was said that Blodeuedd was the fairest and most beautiful woman anyone had ever seen.
