[edit] Fictional character biography
In the film, Blade is approached by the vampires to deal with a potential problem in Jared Nomak, the carrier of a new form of the vampire virus dubbed as the Reaper strain. To assist him, Blade is given command of the Blood Pack, who had been previously training for two years to hunt Blade himself. The group is comprised of 8 members, all of which are vampires. They are: Reinhardt (Ron Perlman), Nyssa Damaskinos (Leonor Varela), Chupa (Matt Schulze), Asad (Danny John-Jules), Snowman (Donnie Yen), Verlaine (Marit Velle Kile), Priest (Tony Curran) and Lighthammer (Daz Crawford). When they first meet Blade, there is obviously some mistrust, although, nevertheless, Blade accompanies them on their first mission to the "House of Pain", an underground nightclub for vampires, which they feel would be an easy target for the Reapers. They keep a lookout for any suspicious figures, and it is not long before they encounter some; Nomak and several Reapers. After a tense fight between Blade and Nomak and the Blood Pack and the Reapers, Priest is killed and several later attempts to track and destroy Nomak fails. The Blood Pack begin to grow more resentful of Blade after this, and Chupa even suggests that they just kill him and go after the Reapers on their own. However, all of the members of the Blood Pack are killed by the end of the film. Blade falls in love with Nyssa Damaskinos. He singles out Reinhardt and promises to kill him if he acts inproperly.
[edit] Members
[edit] Reinhardt
Reinhardt is the leader and member of the Blood Pack whom despises Blade the most. Reinhardt's father was a vampire, who killed Reinhardt's mother and raised him. He later acts the chief of Damaskinos' henchmen and his racist comment upon meeting Blade leads to a physical conflict with the latter, which ends with Blade attaching an explosive device to the back of his head, which he threatens to set off if Reinhardt acts in an improper manner. Reinhardt survived the Blood Pack's first mission to the House of Pain, and fought bravely in the Blood Pack's mission to the sewers. It is there that Damaskinos' forces apprehended them and brought them back to Damaskinos' lair. It is there that Josh Fromeyer/Scud, Blade's new tech-assistant revealed himself as a servant of the vampires a.k.a. a familiar. Blade set off the bomb, but apparently it was a fake, constructed by Scud of course. Reinhardt then pulled the device from his head.
Reinhardt proceeded to torture Whistler, but was distracted by Jared Nomak's attack on the stronghold. When Reinhardt's back was turned, Whistler attacked the vampire from behind and briefly stunned him. Whistler then escaped through the grille.
Reinhardt made his last appearance trying to kill Blade as the facility fell into chaos around them. Although armed with a shotgun, Blade's own sword, and a small army of familiars, Reinhardt was ultimately sliced in half by a blood-drenched Blade. Reinhardt's German ancestry is mentoned by Blade and Whistler e.g. by calling him Fritz and Adolf.
[edit] Chupa
Chupa's name comes from the Spanish word chupar, meaning "to suck." Chupa shows most animosity towards Whistler instead of Blade. He is friends with Priest, calling Priest honorable for wanting to die after being bitten by a reaper. After Priest dies, Chupa wishes to kill Whistler to even the score. In the sewers, Chupa separates Whistler from the group and proceeds to beat Whistler. Whistler releases reaper pheromones into the air. Chupa is killed when dozens of reapers begin to feed from him.
[edit] Priest
Priest is an Irish member of the Blood Pack and a friend of Chupa. He was a "pure-blood" vampire and utters his disdain for those born human and later turned into vampires, (the best example of this being when he observes, with contempt, the many half-blood clubbers in the House of Pain dancing around him). Priest partially agreed to work with Blade. He underestimated the Reapers strength and was bitten during the Blood Pack's mission at the House of Pain. To spare him the agonizing pain of turning into a Reaper, Reinhardt sliced his head in half with Snowman's katana but this accelerated the transformation. Finally, he was killed by Blade, who exposed him to sunlight burning him to cinders.
[edit] Snowman
A member of the Blood Pack, Snowman is of Asian heritage and used a katana as his primary weapon, unlike the other members who favoured firearms. He did not appear to hold much animosity towards Blade. Snowman never spoke during the film instead using a form of sign language. He was also very proficient in hand to hand combat and even held his own against a superior Reaper. He survived the House of Pain mission, but was slain by Lighthammer turned Reaper while in the sewers.
[edit] Lighthammer
A member of the Blood Pack, Lighthammer is a barbarian-style brute who uses a warhammer with a springloaded spike as his primary weapon. He was wounded by a Reaper during a trip to the House of Pain but Verlaine drove it away saving his life but leaving him infected with the Reaper strain, he concealed this fact from the others. He fully turned within in the Sewers and killed Snowman and was about to turn on Verlaine before she burnt them both to death by sunlight. Lighthammer was the lover of Verlaine. Like Priest, Lighthammer partially agreed to ally himself with Blade.
[edit] Verlaine
As well as being a member of the Blood Pack, Verlaine is Lighthammer's lover. She killed herself and a newly-turned Reaper Lighthammer in the sewers, by opening a manhole in broad daylight whilst trying to escape from him, which instantly burned them both alive. She was the twin sister of Racquel, who was also a vampire and was killed by Blade in the opening scene of the first film. Because of this, she held much mutual hatred towards Blade, but agreed to the mission for the vampire race.
[edit] Trivia
- According to the script for Blade 2, Verlaine is also the sister of Racquel, the vampiress played by Traci Lords, who was killed by Blade at the beginning of the first film.
- The character on Snowman's armor is the Japanese kanji yuki which means snow.
