Blue Star Camps
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Blue Star Camps is a summer camp for children located outside of Hendersonville, North Carolina. It was founded in 1948 by Herman Popkin and his brothers so that Jewish children could live in a community based on positive risk and are inspired to achieve and accomplish. It is nationally recognized and is also one of the largest summer camps in the United States. Bluestar differs from other summer camps in that there are seven different "camps" that make up the Bluestar family. Camps are separated between gender and certain age and within each camp there are 2 to 3 different units which contain campers that are in their certain grade level. Bluestar Camps also recently added a family camp option which allows families to spend a weekend at camp together while participating in traditional Bluestar activities. Family camp is usually held in early August. Blue Star Camps is currently owned and operated by the Popkin family(Rodger, Candy and Jason) and also Tom Rosenberg. The camp attracts campsers from all around the world and nearly half of it's staff are from overseas(mostly England, Australia, South Africa, Israel and New Zealand.)
