The Bluefield Barons are a semi-professional football team that plays in the Alliance Football League (formerly the Appalachian Football League) and had their inaugural start in 2005.

Playing at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield, West Virginia, the Barons draw their talent from a wide area across the states of West Virginia and Virginia. The team attracts a mixture of former college and high school players. Many players are former standouts from local colleges like Concord University and even West Virginia University. Local high school powerhouses Bluefield and Graham also send players to the Barons.

In the expanded Alliance League, the Bluefield Barons provided they could play with team from larger area as well as they dominated teams from the old Appalachian League.Oftenleaving them with negative yardage at the end of the game. Bluefield even added more powerful opponents from outside the league to augment their schedule the Barons won two National Bowl Games sponsored by the Minor League Football News.The Barons also issued an unanswered challege for any semipro team in the nation to come to Bluefield to play.
32-year old head coach/gm Bill Dudley was named 2005 & 2006 Mideast Coach of Year by Minor League Football News.

Winning their division at 10-0 after knocking off Alliance League powerhouse, Knoxville, Tennessee, Bluefield advanced closer to the national title game, and will face off in Americus, Georgia against the Southern Georgia Stars on November 5, 2005. Bluefield finished the regular season by outscoring their opponents by 284 - 40. 2006 AFL Champions,Alliance Bowl Champions,National Challenge Bowl Champions Mid West National Champions. Two Year Record 26-1, 2006 14-0. In an expanded Alliance League the Barons were again undefeated defeating teams from metro areas such as Atlanta, Nashville, Chattanogia, Knoxville,Pittsburgh/Morgantown and Charlotte NC.The Barons one two National Bowl Games sponsored by the Minor League Football News. Claiming Two separate National Titles while finishing #5 in the overall national poll, behind only the cities such as Brooklyn NY and Dallas Texas. The New AFL consisted of former national champion Georgia Xtreme led by Clemson all time leading rusher Travis Zachary. Three Barons players were named first team All America QB Glenn Keene, Wr Jon Jessup,and Dt Mike Bell.Coach Bill Dudley was also honored as Executive of the Year. On December 16, the Barons captured the National Title in a come from behind last second Td pass from Bluefield WV native Glenn Keene to former Concord star Korey Wright with 08 seconds to go in the game against the Iredell(NC) Warriors Champions of the Carolina's Football League.
