Bluestar is Thunderclan's former leader (before Firestar). She was also Firestar's mentor for most of the series. Bluestar's warrior name was Bluefur when she was a queen. The Thunderclan deputy Tawnyspots was retired and another cat was going to be made deputy. Bluestar knew that it was too risky to let Thistleclaw become the deputy, so she had to give up her kits for the good of the Clan. Bluestar gave her kits, Stonefur and Mistyfoot, to their father Oakheart in RiverClan because deputies couldn't be queens at the same time. She had broken the warrior code when she fell in love with Oakheart since they are from different Clans. Mistyfoot and Stonefur are raised by Graypool and find out that Bluestar is their mother right before she dies.
Bluestar stops believing in StarClan because she and Fireheart (Firestar's warrior name) were stopped from visiting the Highstones to contact StarClan and she believes that StarClan could have stopped the bad things happening in the forest. She believed StarClan was at war with her Clan and that she could not trust her Clan anymore, ever since Tigerclaw/star tried to kill her. Thus she only makes Cloudpaw (Cloudtail's apprentice name) into a warrior because he doesn't believe in Starclan; he calls it "tales for kits." She also believes that Fireheart was the only cat in her Clan she could trust, and refused to make any more "traitors" warriors. Cloudtail was made a warrior because she believed since Fireheart trained him, he was loyal. Right before she died, though, she realized that StarClan was not at war with her.
