Boutique law firm
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A boutique law firm is a collection of attorneys specializing in a very narrow area of the law. While a general practice law firm includes a variety of unrelated practice areas within a single firm, a boutique firm specializes in one or a select few niche practice areas. The complexities of intellectual property, especially patent law, have made IP boutiques particularly prevalent in recent decades. However, any practice area capable of standing alone can make for a successful boutique.
Sample boutiques include Fishburns (insurance); Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner (IP); and Holman Fenwick & Willan (shipping). While boutiques are generally small due to their specialized nature, Finnegan has over 300 attorneys and Holman has offices in seven countries on three continents.
