Bradbury, New South Wales
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bradbury is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia.
The suburb was previously known as Sherwood Hills and is one of the more established suburbs of Campbelltown, with large-scale residential development beginning in the 1960s.
The area surrounding Manooka Reserve (located on The Parkway) was originally called Manooka Estate, but was merged into the rest of Bradbury in the 70's
Aesthetically, the suburb features many areas of greenery with native trees characterising most streets. It is common for many streets to be home to a range of native trees. The street names in the area are also marked by various forms of these, including Bottlebrush (Avenue), Jacaranda (Avenue), and Ash (Place).
The suburb also features a Swimming Complex (Bradbury Pools) - which includes one large outdoor Olympic sized swimming pool, a children's wading pool, and two indoor pools (one heated, and one regular). Also in the suburb are several ovals, which support local football and cricket teams for both matches and training.
Busways runs a bus service through the area, chiefly with the route numbers 885 and 886.
Historically, this suburb is said to be the location where Fisher's Ghost (Frederick Fisher) appeared on a bridge post to indicate where his body lay. The body of water near to his appearance is now referred to as Fisher's Ghost Creek.
