Brasil (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Brasil" is the name of a pop-rock song composed by the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Cazuza together with George Israel and Nilo Romero. The most well-known version of this song was performed by MPB singer Gal Costa on the soundtrack of the TV soap opera Vale Tudo (worth everything) (1986).
[edit] Meaning of the lyrics
The song expresses an anti-nationalist feeling and a pessimist view on the Brazilian lifestyle and way to handle things.
Beside of the fact that the song was featured on the soundtrack of Vale Tudo, a popular Rede Globo telenovela, it criticized the fascination of the population on Fantástico: "They did not chose me as Fantástico girl? It's this my end?".
The song was so controversial at the time of its release that some companies chose not to advertise Vale Tudo just because this song was featured on its soundtrack.
