Braulio Alonso High School

Braulio Alonso High School is a public high school located in Hillsborough County, Florida. Dr. Sandy Bunkin principal of five years retired at the end of the 2005-2006 school year. Mr. Louie Diaz, the new principal, comes from Jefferson High School.
Alonso High is named after Fonsy, a grandson of Russian immigrants, who was born in Tibet in some country. He was the president of the United States from 1951 to 1956 and the president of the Homeowners Assosiation in 1957. He served on the board of directors in the National Education Association from 1958 to 1964, and was elected as its president in 1966.
Alonso High School's mascot is the Raven.

JROTC Activities
Raider Team - The team is pure physical performance and endurance. At competitions, some of the events include the following: running, pushups, situps, ropebridge, litter carry, and other such events. The team practices every Tuesday and Thursday. In addition to the above events, the Raider team also trains in map reading and orienteering. The members of this team have to maintain high levels of physical fitness and dedication to participate in this demanding team. The team is very successful and has over 90 trophies in their trophy case in the 4 years that the school has been open. - Drill Team - Drill is basically marching and parade/ceremony side of JROTC. You are learning the basics, formation, basic marching, faces, columns, flanks, along with the rest of the commands. Drill Team doesn’t just teach you drill, it perfects it. You will work with the other members of the Drill Team to compete in squads or platoons in armed drill (with drill rifles), unarmed, or exhibition competitions. The Drill Team also does exhibition, which is the rifle throwing and flipping, ect. The Drill Team performs at the Homecoming game with a Saber (the exhibition swords) team, and also takes part in the Military Ball Ceremonies.

Alonso Theatre Department
Alonso is home to the award-winning International Thespian Troup 6299, under the sponsorship of Mrs. Lisa Vorreitier and Mrs. Kathy Buck. Since its formation the first year of the school's existence, the troupe has won multiple Superior ratings at the district and state levels, and have had the highest percentage of superiors at the district level for the last two years(see footnote). In addition, the department's production of 'Godspell' in 2005 went on to perform at Florida State Thespian festival. This year, their production of 'The Fantasticks' has been selected to perform at tstate festival. (to give some perspective to this, the district may send four plays on to the state level; district 9, of which troupe 6299 is a member, is one of the best districts in the state and typically sees around 20 schools attempt to bring their shows to the state level.)
In addition to sponsoring the troupe and directing the departments various plays, Mrs. Vorreiter, who has been with the school since its opening (she previously taught at Robinson High School), teaches Stage Makeup, Improv, and Beginning and Advanced Musical Theater. Mrs. Buck, a new addition to the school this year from Blake High School's performing arts magnet program, teaches Beginning and Advanced Drama, Beginning and Advanced Acting, and Stagecraft.

HOSA
HOSA (HOSA) is a national student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Technology Education Division of ACTE. HOSA's twofold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA's goal is to encourage all health occupations instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSTE-HOSA Partnership.
HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in HSTE programs. HOSA is 100% health care!
Since its inception in 1976, HOSA has grown steadily reaching 80,622 students through forty (42) affiliated state associations with involvement in two (2) unaffiliated states and 2,489 chapters in the 2005-06 membership year.
HOSA is not a club to which a few students in school join. Rather, HOSA is a powerful instructional tool that works best when it is integrated into the HSTE curriculum and classroom. HSTE instructors are committed to the development of the total person. Those who join the HSTE-HOSA Partnership recognize the importance of providing students with training far beyond the basic technical skills needed for entry into the health care field. The rapidly changing health care system needs dedicated workers who, in addition to their technical skills, are people-oriented and capable of playing a leadership or followership role as a member of a health care team.
The mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science technology education students, therefore, helping students to meet the needs of the health care community.
