Breakthrough: building human rights culture is an international human rights organization that uses media, education, and popular culture to address social justice issues. The organization was founded in 2000 by Mallika Dutt and operates through offices in India and the United States. Breakthrough addresses a range of issues including women's rights, immigrant rights, sexuality and HIV/AIDS.
Breakthrough made its debut into the media world with an album called Mann ke Manjeere: an album of women's dreams. The music was composed by Shantanu Moitra and the lyrics by Prasoon Joshi, currently the India head of McCann Erickson. Most of the songs were sung by major Indipop artist, Shubha Mudgal. The music video featured Bollywood actor Mita Vashist and won the National Screen Award for best music video in 2001.
Breakthrough also teamed up with Sarah Jones and organized five performances of "Waking the American Dream" in San Francisco, Washington DC, Charlotte, NC and New York City in 2003 before the play went onto Broadway as "Bridge and Tunnel."
