Britannia Halt railway station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One stop on the line between Churston and Kingswear that has now disappeared was Britannia Halt. It was so named because cadets at the Britannia Royal Naval College, in Dartmouth, used to alight from the train here to take the ferry (the Floating Bridge) across the river. Many Royal princes who were midshipmen at the college would have left the train here to make the trip across the river. The site of Britannia Halt is on the right-hand side of the Kingswear slipway to the Higher Ferry where the level crossing intersects Bridge Road.
