This is a list of the most expensive transfer fees paid - at that time - in football in the United Kingdom.

This record may stand for some time as transfer fees reached their all time peak to date across Europe in 2001 and 2002 and then fell back. Since Roman Abramovich's purchase of Chelseain 2003 there have been various rumours Chelsea were set to break the British record transfer fee, and indeed the world record transfer fee, but none of those deals have happened.

It is believed that the fee is more than that of Rio Ferdinand's transfer to Manchester United, however the actual figure was not disclosed by the clubs, and this therefore cannot be estimated.
