Broughton, Flintshire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Broughton (Welsh: Brychdyn) is a small district in Flintshire, NE Wales, close to the Wales - England border and located to the West of the City of Chester, England. Broughton is often confused with Boughton, an area East of Chester city centre.
Broughton is home to a large aircraft factory. This was completed by late 1939 for the use by Vickers Armstrong in building 5786 Wellington bombers. De Havilland Aircraft took over the factory in 1948 and built 2816 planes of several designs. Today, the plant is the Airbus wing factory which manufactures wings for the A320, A330/A340 and A380 aeroplanes. Airbus wings produced in Broughton are flown out in Airbus Beluga planes with the exception of the large A380 wings which are transported by barge along the river Dee to the nearby Mostyn docks.
The town also has a popular shopping park, known simply as Broughton Shopping Park where branches of major stores such as Tesco can be found. The popular TV series broadcasting on ITV1 Midsomer Murders announced it would film in Broughton in Autumn 2006.
Broughton is twinned with Auzeville-Tolosane (pop. 31035), a Commune of Toulouse, France.
