Burford School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Burford School is a mixed secondary comprehensive school in Burford, Oxfordshire (England).
The school has a thriving link with Bishop Dunstan School in Kalangala, Ssese Island Uganda. Each two year cycle a group of 14 students visit Uganda and then 14 exchange students return. Links have spread throughout the whole town, and fundraising has achieved the construction of a boarding house and Library in Uganda in previous years.
The school is located at the southern end of Burford, adjacent to the revered Burford Golf Club. Given that Burford sits at near equal distances from the towns of Witney and Carterton, and close to villages such as the Wychwoods, the school has an unusually large catchment area.
A little over a thousand students study at Burford, and numbers are increasing for entrants and applicants to the large and well suited Sixth Form, at which students can study new A-levels such as Law and Economics, amongst others such as English.
The school's location provides students with easy and convenient access to Burford, where the Boarding House, Lenthall House (pronounced [ˈlɛnθ(ə)l] or [-ɔ(ː)l] in the IPA), is situated. The boarding house accepts many international students, largely from Hong Kong.
