Burlington Liars' Club
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Burlington Liars' Club is a organization that awards the title "World Champion Liar" annually. The club, located in Burlington, Wisconsin, has been bestowing the award since 1929 when two enterprising freelance reporters made up a story about handing out a medal for the year’s best lie and sent it out for publication. Otis Hulett and Manuel Hahn fabricated a news story about a lying contest between the Burlington police and fire departments in which the winner the police chief, who denied ever telling a lie. Hulett closed the club in 1979, and the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce revived it the next year.[1]
