Cali≠Gari was a band that fathered the eroguro ("erotic" and "grotesque") movement. Their often extremely bizarre make-up and outfits proved such. Their newly founded style was shown in almost everything they did throughout their career (such as a free condom with their "Blue Film EP" and a nude transvestite on stage during their concerts).

Cali≠Gari was the brainchild of Sakurai Ao (who is currently the only remaining member since the beginning to end) who wrote the majority of lyrics and music for the band. Their songs were as amazing as their appearance which were surpising, shocking and different. Their songs range from upbeat pop, techno and electronic, heavy rock, to typical visual-kei style, jazz influenced, sweet ballads, and new-wave style songs. Their music can't be described as one genre because they basically did every type of music.
However, the band paused all activities in 2003 after the release of their "8" album. At present the band members are all working on their own bands/projects at the moment.
The name Cali≠Gari came from an old horror film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari", and they are considered to be the pioneers of the eroguro genre that includes such bands as Mucc and Merry.
