State Route 160 is a discontinuous California State Highway consisting of 2 sections. One section is a freeway running east-west from the intersection of Richards Boulevard, 12th Street, and 16th Street in downtown Sacramento to the interchange with Interstate Business Loop 80 and Arden Way better known as The Arden Y. The other section runs in a north-south direction from the southern edge of the city of Sacramento to the city of Antioch (ending at the junction of SR-4). It formerly included surface street portions within the Sacramento city limits (connecting the two existing segments), but this was formally relinquished in 2002. It starts off as the North Sacramento Freeway and crosses the American River.
South of Sacramento it takes a scenic, meandering route through the alluvial plain of the lower Sacramento River, meeting SR-12 near Rio Vista before it crosses the San Joaquin River on the Antioch Bridge.
