Callerton Parkway is a station on the Tyne and Wear Metro Green line, which opened on November 17, 1991, when the line was extended to Newcastle Airport. It is not located near any significant housing estates, and as a result is one of the Metro stations with the lowest patronage. Because of good road links, the station is used as a transfer point to buses travelling to locations in Northumberland.
The station is located where the Metro route crosses Callerton Lane and the platforms are located on the south side of the road. One unusual feature is that the traffic lanes are separated by a traffic island and railings to prevent vehicles overtaking on the automatic open level crossing.
