The California Gold Rush (1848-1855) was the "first world-class gold rush."[1] Coming just as the world was moving from sail to steam, and from stagecoach to rail, the Gold Rush transformed California from a distant and quiet province to a focus of the world’s imagination. The Gold Rush laid the foundation of the “California Dream” as a place to begin again, a place where untold wealth was just waiting to be found.
