Camp Arifjan is a United States Army base with elements of the US Air Force, US Marine Corps, US Navy and US Coast Guard stationed there as well. Romanian, Polish, Australian and British military personnel are also stationed at Camp Arifjan. Camp Arifjan is located south of Kuwait City, Kuwait, south of Ali Al Salem Airbase, and west of the Shuaiba Port (Military Sea Port of Debarkation/Embarkation, or SPOD).
Camp Arifjan is a critical US Military installation, and is utilized as a major rear line supply base; Aviation Classification and Repair Activity Depot (Task Force AVCRAD) for the entire Southwest Asian Theater (through Patton Army Air Field); helicopter ground support base; and as a motor pool for armoured and unarmoured vehicles. The vast majority of military vehicles that did not receive new additional armor plating in the United States prior to deployment in the SWA combat theater (tens of thousands) received their "up-armoring" at Camp Arifjan. Additionally, many thousands of soldiers pass through Camp Arifjan either on their way to Iraq or returning from Iraq.
The base has undergone many changes within the past several years, including the construction of half a dozen barracks, hundreds of "temporary" of transitional barracks, known as PCB's (Pre-Fabricated Concrete Buildings), 3 dining facilities, and the establishment of 2 base exchanges (AAFES). There are approximately 9,000 personnel stationed at Camp Arifjan.
