Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography

The Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography (CMCP) (French: Le Musée canadien de la photographie contemporaine (MCPC)) is a gallery of Canada's best art and documentary photography. Founded in 1985 and affilated to the National Gallery of Canada, it is located at 1 Rideau Canal, Ottawa, tucked in beside the Chateau Laurier and overlooking the Rideau Canal.

The roots of the collection reach back to the 1939 Stills Photography Division of the National Film Board of Canada and it did not have a permanent home until it moved to its present location. The building, which was opened on May 7, 1992, was designed by architect Michael Lundhom, who adapted an old railway tunnel running alongside the Chateau Laurier. The glass and concrete entrance from the street, reminscent of the colonnade leading into the National Gallery, leads patrons down to the main part of the museum which is located below street level.
