Canadian Olympic Committee

The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is a national, private, not-for-profit organization committed to sport excellence. It is responsible for all aspects of Canada's involvement in the Olympic movement, including Canada's participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games and a wide variety of programs that promote the Olympic Movement in Canada through cultural and educational means.
First recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1907, the COC has evolved into a multi-faceted sport organization providing financial support, services and leadership to the Canadian amateur high performance sport community.
The COC is responsible for all aspects of Canada's involvement in the Olympic Movement, including:
- Canada's participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games
- Managing a wide variety of cultural and educational programs promoting Olympic values in Canada
- Additional grass-roots programs where communities develop and promote the Olympic values at all levels
- Selecting and supporting Canadian cities in bids to host Olympic, Olympic Winter and Pan American Games
As one of the founding partners of Canadian Sport Centres across Canada, the COC is dedicated to providing Canadian athletes with the most comprehensive services available. These range from offering career counseling to stress management and much more. The COC is also continually developing new services for the future so Canadian athletes can work, train and live to be their very best.
The COC is an internationally recognized leader in the fields of marketing and education, and works to promote sport as a positive and powerful force for all Canadians. In so doing, the COC helps ensure that sport continues to contribute to Canadians' physical, social and moral development from coast to coast to coast.
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is governed by a large group of volunteers gathered from all areas of the nation and united by a common interest in sport and the Olympic Movement. Currently, the COC membership is comprised of 446 members,comparatively the United States Olympic Committee is comprised of 11 members, spread over the three levels of Governance:
- Executive Committee (15 voting, 1 non-voting)
- Board of Directors (77 voting, 1 non-voting)
- General membership
The President of the COC is Michael Chambers. Jean Dupré and Walter Sieber serve as COC Vice-Presidents. The COC has four offices: Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. The Corporate Office in Toronto is led by Chris Rudge, Chief Executive Officer/Secretary General, who is also a non-voting member of the Board of Directors.
