Canadian political dynasties
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Canadian political dynasties are families of famous and influential Canadians who have had influence for extended periods of time, or over centuries, on Canadian political life, and who continue in the tradition of the Family Compact or the Château Clique to exert influence while enabling historical continuity within Canadian federal, provincial, and civic politics. The List of Canadian political families should be viewed in parallel with the List of U.S. political families as each group has had extensive conflict or alliance with each other from the time of the American Revolution in which the United Empire Loyalists fled to Canada, and became part of the political ruling elite against American interests; and post-Confederation when a new group of political families made compromises and mutual interests with American political dynasties occurred.
