Natives of Liverpool in Syracuse, New York, the band joined forces in highschool in late 1998 under the moniker “Candid Daydream”. They quickly gained a loyal following before shortening their name to “Candid”. Candid uses a unique combination of blues, funk, rock, pop, jazz, and even some hip-hop when creating their music.
The following is an excerpt from an interview with Reportermag.com and Corey Paige, the vocalist for Candid.
BH: What is Candid Daydream all about?
CP: Oh man, (laugh)… I guess, just playing good music, having a good time, and if doing so you can say something that means something-that’s always a goal.
BH: What does it feel like to be on stage and have the crowd sing your song back to you?
CP: It’s half a high, and half disbelief. I’ll drink and smoke cigarettes all night writing one of these songs, and maybe the band will play it, and like, a year later people are singing it back to you… It’s a rush, but half of that is bewilderment… The best part is that people are singing back to you your most private thoughts, and they don’t know what it means to me, but it means something to them.
According to Candid’s Official Website, “The band cites influences that run the gamut, from Weezer’s unstoppable melodies and the soaring atmosphere of Radiohead to Elvis Costello’s sharp lyrical jabs and the gritty intimacy of Ani DiFranco.” Some of Candid’s other influences are Dave Matthews, A Tribe Called Quest, and Cake.
The band has played the northeast extensively and appeared with numerous national and overseas acts, including Tonic, Vertical Horizon, Andrew W.K. and Strangefolk.
