The statue in the centre of Canning is not the prime minister, Sir. Robert Borden, but Harold Lothrop Borden, a relative, who was killed in the Boer War in South Africa on July 16,1900 and is buried in South Africa.

After the Acadians, Canning- first called Apple Tree Landing and then Habitant Corner, was settled by New England Planters in 1760 and by the Dutch following World Ward II.
