[edit] Episode recap
During dinner, Jon remarks that a comic book publisher (Mr. Mendelbaum) is coming to check out Jon’s new strip idea. After dinner, while Garfield is taking a nap with Pooky, someone creeps in and takes Pooky from the bed. Garfield eventually wakes up and doesn’t find Pooky, so he decides to turn into a superhero called the Caped Avenger (he simply puts his blanket on as a cape) in order to find him.
Garfield decides he needs a sidekick, and he settles for Odie. He tells Odie that he needs a costume, to which Odie runs off and comes back dressed as a clown. He takes it off before they search for Pooky in the kitchen, and they walk past Jon, who says that he put Pooky in the washer because he was covered in lasagna stains. Garfield doesn’t notice and searches for Pooky in the refrigerator. He then reminds Odie that he needs a costume, to which Odie dresses up in a chicken suit.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mendelbaum seems disinterested in all of Jon’s ideas, to which Jon presents a character called Buddy Bear; Mr. Mendelbaum then tells him that he detests bears. Garfield then looks in on them before he calls for Odie, who shows up in a professional-looking costume; Garfield tells him to never dress better than the hero. Jon then goes into the kitchen for refreshments, and Mr. Mendelbaum references Buddy Bear by saying that he’s glad they got rid of a “stupid-looking bear”.
Garfield misinterprets this as meaning he got rid of Pooky, so he attacks Mr. Mendelbaum. Jon catches him and scolds him, but he also gives him Pooky. He then apologizes to Mr. Mendelbaum, who instead says that he wants a comic book about Jon’s crime-fighting house pet. Garfield then jumps up with a list of demands, but then he learns that Mr. Mendelbaum was referring to Odie. Garfield then chooses Pooky as his new sidekick because he doesn’t upstage the hero.
