Captain Cook is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hawaiʻi County, Hawaiʻi, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 3,206. The city is named after Captain James Cook.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,206 people, 1,152 households, and 822 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 101.8/km² (263.6/mi²). There were 1,223 housing units at an average density of 38.8/km² (100.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 33.44% White, 0.22% African American, 0.19% Native American, 31.63% Asian, 7.86% Pacific Islander, 1.09% from other races, and 25.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.05% of the population.
There were 1,152 households out of which 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.5% were married couples living together, 12.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% were non-families. 21.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.24.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 29.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 103.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $47,644, and the median income for a family was $60,179. Males had a median income of $36,250 versus $27,155 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $21,237. About 5.4% of families and 8.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.5% of those under age 18 and 3.6% of those age 65 or over.
