[edit] Summary
This is a screenshot of the white-faced demon known as Captain Howdy from the movie the Exorcist. When used in the article Captain Howdy in a low resolution format, I believe it falls under fair use as described by the licensing tag applied to the image.
This image was created by director William Friedkin and used in the 1973 film The Exorcist, and as such is copyright to Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc., the distribution and production company for the film. The image source is [1], an internet blog, and the image is found by itself under the heading "WELL THEN IN QUICK SUCCESSION WE HAD BABIES, ONE, TWO, THREE" in the internal link "Captain Howdy" written and underlined in purple. Where the blogger originally found this image is unknown, but it could not possibly be in violation of any copyright because it is, above all, the property of Warner Bros., and as stated above qualifies for fair use in the context described on Wikipedia.
[edit] Licensing
This image is a screenshot from a copyrighted film, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by the studio which produced the film, and possibly also by any actors appearing in the screenshot. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
- for identification and critical commentary on the film and its contents
- on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation,
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Fair use for more information.
To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
