Cardiff & County Club
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Cardiff & County Club is a traditional gentlemen's club situated in Westgate Street, Cardiff, Wales.
The Secretary of the Club is Mr Michael Jones. Manager of the Club is Major Cook, whilst the Head Chef is Mark Jones.
The Club opens for lunch Monday to Saturday inclusive, which is served between 12.30 to 2.30 pm. The Bar opens from about 12 noon, and is available ordinarily until about 7pm. As of 2007 there is no overnight accommodation at the Club.
It is the only gentleman's club in Cardiff and many of the members are or were involved at the highest levels of commercial, legal, academic or sporting life in the principality.
The Club does not admit women to full membership, but wives of members are allowed to use parts of the Club and as of late 2006 women guests may be entertained in certain, designated, areas of the club.
The Club benefits from a number of original works of art commissioned or purchased by the Club, in particular in recent years owing to the removal of various works which had been previously loaned by the Welsh National Museum. These works had to be returned following agitation by female members of the Welsh Assembly who were angered at the Club's policy of not admitting women to membership.
