Carl Leaburn

Carl Leaburn (born March 30, 1969) is a former football player, who generally played as a forward.
A former professional footballer Carl played for Charlton Athletic and Wimbledon. One highlight of his career with the Addicks is scoring at Old Trafford against Manchester United during an FA cup run. Carl has also played in the England Under 20's team under Graham Taylor.
Leaburn had an unfortunate reputation as a striker who could not score goals. He managed a strike rate of approximately one goal in 6 games for The Addicks, although his hard work and determination made him a cult figure with fans. Despite this, he managed to secure a £300,000 move to Wimbledon in the Premiership. After a goal scoring debut against Crystal Palace the goals quickly dried up. Upon playing his final league game for QPR Leaburn was just 2 more league appearances away from the hugely unenviable record of having gone 50 league games without a goal.
Carl's playing career ended three years ago and after studying the BTEC Radio Broadcasting course, he has worked with BBC London on their sport programmes as a match summariser and interviewer. He currently works for the FA Premier League Productions as match analyst.
Carl moved to Friday evenings on Redstone.fm, in Redhill for 3 one month broadcasts. The programme included a preview of the weekend's football activity. The BBC's Garth Crooks was again a regular contributor and Carl featured exclusive interviews with footballers Anton Ferdinand, Chris Perry and Charlton Athletic's manager Alan Curbishley. Local sport was also covered with features on Merstham FC, Horley Town and Redhill FC.
